Donna-Mae has held various positions at the University and is presently serving as MSA President with 100% release time from her position as Manager, School of Continuing Education. She became involved with MSA in 1999 as a member of the Negotiating team. Her interest in the Negotiation Committee was initiated by the desire to see change for employees holding term positions and for the collective agreement to provide the opportunity to be converted from a term to a full-time continuing position. After serving on the Negotiations Committee she became Vice-President and then President. She has held the position of President of the MacEwan Staff Association since 2002.

Donna-Mae has represented MSA members on numerous committees. A few examples are the Facilities Review Consultation, Performance Management Committee, Classification Committee, Budget Advisory Committee, Policy Improvement Project, Single Sustainable Campus Stakeholder Consultation, Tele-Commuting Task Team, and Academic Governance Task Team as well as selection committees for the Distinguished Alumni Award, MacEwan President and Associate Vice-President Human Resources. The position of President also provides Labour Relations with the Director of Labour Relations

Her educational background includes a Master’s Certificate in Project Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. Donna-Mae has also obtained a Change Management Certificate, a Conflict Management Certificate, Negotiations Training and a Supervisory Development Certificate.

Lee-Ann Jeffrey has been an employee of MacEwan since 2001. She has worked in all different areas, all within the faculty of Arts & Science and is currently in the Dean’s office. Lee-Ann volunteers for the Finance, Health & Wellness, Bylaw, HR and Social Committee. She looks forward to our brief summers and gets out as much as possible. An avid camper and fisherperson, she is also a huge animal fanatic – she owns 2 dogs, 3 cats and 2 chinchillas, all adopted from the Humane Society. Erin joined MacEwan University as a Senior Consultant in Conference and Event Services and has been the Manager of the department since 2011. Erin holds a BA from Wilfrid Laurier University and is in the process of completing her Management Certificate from MacEwan University.  She is the past president of the Canadian University and College Conference Organizers Association and teaches part time at Norquest College in the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation Hospitality Institute.

Erika Pinder

Erika has been employed at MacEwan University since 2015 after graduating with an Accounting and Strategic Measurement Diploma from MacEwan. She is currently in pursuit of a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Accounting and has plans to enroll in the CPA program.

Erika previously sat on the MSA Finance Committee and has sat on the PD Committee in the past. She has always had a passion for employee engagement in the workplace and believes in strong mentorship and professional development. She believes this foundation can provide the employee, as well as the employer, great benefits in the achievement of the strategic plans of the organization as well as growth for employees in their career goals.

Sarah embraced the art of communication beginning with her work in Talk Radio, Real Estate Sales, Not-for-profit Housing, and now University Administration. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Honors Philosophy from Western University and a MacEwan University Diploma in Library and Information Technology (with distinction). Impressed by her own student experience, Sarah began working in The Office of the University Registrar shortly after graduating in 2015. She supports student goals while upholding the values of our University through careful attention to student concerns and an approachable communication style. She refined her skills as a compassionate listener by volunteering as a Distress Line Listener with CMHA (Canadian Mental Health Association) and as a Facilitator for GELA’s (Greater Edmonton Library Association) Storybook Project. As an enthusiastic collaborator, Sarah is motivated to serve as an MSA Member Representative to optimize staff conditions and empower people to thrive in their work. Sarah enjoys making memories with her blended family in the home she shares with her husband in Griesbach. Sarah has been a part of MacEwan since 2002. She began her employment in Financial Services as a student in the accounting co-op program, and soon after was hired as a full time continuing employee. In her current role as Accounting Technician III, she works on outstanding tuition fee collection and the T2202A tuition tax receipts.  Every day at MacEwan is a different and exciting adventure! Outside of MacEwan, Sarah loves to spend time with her husband, son and daughter. They love road trips, getting out and exploring Edmonton and cooking together.

Suzanne Fournier

Suzanne Fournier joined MacEwan University in the summer of 2010. She currently works as a Program Manager in the School of Continuing Education, where she manages a portfolio of business and management PD courses as well as Minerva Seniors Studies courses.  She is committed to life-long learning and loves working with her colleagues and instructors to provide students of all ages with a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Suzanne is an alumnus of MacEwan, having graduated from the Advertising and Public Relations Program in 1994. She has also completed certificates in Conflict Management and Management Essentials, and is a Certified Program Planner. A proud member of MSA, Suzanne has served on the Bylaws committee for several years.

Celine Miller

As a graduate, Celine has been at MacEwan for 30 years, holding administrative support positions with the School of Business, Faculty Development, Grant MacEwan University Faculty Association (GMUFA), and currently, the Office of General Counsel. In these roles, she had the opportunity to make lasting connections with MSA members from across the university. Her past position with GMUFA provided her with the opportunity to listen to member concerns and connect members with the appropriate resources, and observe the interpretation and application of the collective agreement to a variety of situations.

Celine believes that the strength of a professional association lies with its members, and that members need to be able to voice their concerns and express their opinions and ideas in a safe and supportive environment. She is a friendly, caring, and approachable person who welcomes the opportunity to use her knowledge and experience to serve MSA by listening to members and helping them to address their challenges and bring forward their ideas.

Christine Valentine has worked at MacEwan University since 2012, after first attending the university as a student. She is the Faculty Governance Administrator for the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications, located in Allard Hall. Christine has a passion for higher education administration and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Educational Policy Studies with a major in Educational Administration and Leadership at the University of Alberta. In her spare time, Christine writes a blog where she discusses educational administrative issues that affect universities today and shares her own academic work at www.valentineacademia.com. An employee of MacEwan University for over 30 years and the Manager of Admissions for more than 10 years. Debbie has also previously served on the Academic Governance Council as a representative of non-academic staff.

Debbie’s experience also includes being a standing member on the former Admissions and Selections Committee and a resource to the current Committee on Admissions and Transfer. During her time on these committees she also served on several sub committees and working groups investigating and researching admissions issues and best practices in undergraduate admissions.

As a member of the leadership team in the Office of the University Registrar, Debbie witness on a daily basis how the decisions made by the governance of the University affect applicants and students alike  and she appreciates the opportunity to be a part of that process. Debbie strives to remember the “Students First” pillar in her day to day decision making and she will bring that perspective to the committee.

Krista Hanscomb

Krista Hanscomb is Mi’kmaq from Paqntkek Mikmaw Nation, Nova Scotia and is the mother of two children, Travis, 22 and Kara, 18.  Krista earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) and is currently working on a Masters of Education in Indigenous Education through StFX.  Throughout high school and university, Krista supported fellow students in her community by providing tutoring and organizing study groups.  This ignited a passion for supporting students in their educational journey.  Krista’s work in Indigenous education spans over 10 years and includes NorQuest College, StFX University and she has been with MacEwan’s kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre since October of 2015.  Krista currently sits on the Indigenous Initiatives Working Group, the Ceremonial Policy sub-committee, and is a member of the newly formed MacEwan Indigenous Advisory Council to the President.

Nina Delling

Nina has a comprehensive background in University administration and governance. With Masters degrees from both Universität Leipzig and University of Alberta, Nina began her career with MacEwan University in 2011, and represented MSA on the Academic Governance Council from 2013-17. Nina has worked with MacEwan International since the beginning of her MacEwan career, and is currently in the role of Education Abroad Advisor. Nina’s community services include being a board member and committee chair of the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation and President and board member of the United Nations Association in Canada (Edmonton branch).

Harry brings to the MSA a wealth of experience in interest-based bargaining and collaborative labour relations. He has represented numerous bargaining units through the processing and resolution of grievances and the negotiation of collective agreements. He has experience with WCB appeals, disability management, as well as reviewing and developing policy. In addition to Union Representative, Harry has previously held senior level management positions in Human Resources and Labour Relations, as well as serving as Vice President of Corporate Services for a local construction company. Harry holds a B.Sc (with Distinction) and M.Sc from the University of Alberta, in addition to certificates in Labour Relations, Small Business Human Resources and Health & Safety Administration. He has four daughters and lives with his wife Laurie on an acreage outside of Edmonton, and in his spare time loves to help out at his neighbour’s farm.

Britany Thiessen

Britany has a B.A. in Politics from the University of Winnipeg and a Human Resources Management diploma from NAIT. Her 8 years of previous experience in various Human Resources roles has brought her ever-present interest in Labour Relations to the forefront of her professional goals. Cathy has been with the MSA since 1998 during which time she has seen our organization grow from one part time staff to two part time and two full-time positions. She enjoys working with our members and through this experience has developed a strong value for the work MSA does at MacEwan University. She and her husband Jim have 3 grown children, enjoys gardening, cooking, volunteering in the community and long walks with best four-legged friend Fynn.

 

Nicole Moeller

Nicole has been with the MacEwan Staff Association for five years. With a background in communications and the arts, Nicole has worked in administration, marketing and communications for over ten years. She has a passion for social justice and supporting union members and workers’ rights in any way she can. Nicole is also an award-winning playwright and published author, and when not at MSA is an active member of Edmonton’s vibrant theatre community. She can often be found searching for new hiking trails in the beautiful river valley with her husband, dog, and new baby.
