Donna-Mae has held various positions at the University and is presently serving as MSA President with 100% release time from her position as Manager, School of Continuing Education. She became involved with MSA in 1999 as a member of the Negotiating team. Her interest in the Negotiation Committee was initiated by the desire to see change for employees holding term positions and for the collective agreement to provide the opportunity to be converted from a term to a full-time continuing position. After serving on the Negotiations Committee she became Vice-President and then President. She has held the position of President of the MacEwan Staff Association since 2002.

Donna-Mae has represented MSA members on numerous committees. A few examples are the Facilities Review Consultation, Performance Management Committee, Classification Committee, Budget Advisory Committee, Policy Improvement Project, Single Sustainable Campus Stakeholder Consultation, Tele-Commuting Task Team, and Academic Governance Task Team as well as selection committees for the Distinguished Alumni Award, MacEwan President and Associate Vice-President Human Resources. The position of President also provides Labour Relations with the Director of Labour Relations

Her educational background includes a Master’s Certificate in Project Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. Donna-Mae has also obtained a Change Management Certificate, a Conflict Management Certificate, Negotiations Training and a Supervisory Development Certificate.

Lee-Ann Jeffrey has been an employee of MacEwan since 2001. She has worked in all different areas, all within the faculty of Arts & Science and is currently in the Dean’s office. Lee-Ann volunteers for the Finance, Health & Wellness, Bylaw, HR and Social Committee. She looks forward to our brief summers and gets out as much as possible. An avid camper and fisherperson, she is also a huge animal fanatic – she owns 2 dogs, 3 cats and 2 chinchillas, all adopted from the Humane Society. Lee-Ann is always open to answering any inquiries and can be reached in person, by phone or email.

Erin joined MacEwan University as a Senior Consultant in Conference and Event Services and has been the Manager of the department since 2011. Erin holds a BA from Wilfrid Laurier University and is in the process of completing her Management Certificate from MacEwan University.  She is the past president of the Canadian University and College Conference Organizers Association and teaches part time at Norquest College in the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation Hospitality Institute.

Carolynn Kane has been with MacEwan since February 2003. She started in the Registrar’s Office where she worked for a few years before taking a position with the Faculty of Health and Community Studies where she now works as a conference organizer.

Carolynn has also taken on many roles in the University community. She served with the MSA Executive on the Professional Development Committee for 8 years, then served 3 years with the University’s Board of Governors. She came back to chair the Professional Development Committee for the past 6 years. During her years with the University she has volunteered for the Mad Hatter’s Ball, New Student Orientation, Open House, the United Way Campaign and various other committees and activities.

Colette Freitas has worked in the post-secondary sector for over 20 years (NAIT and University of Alberta), and joined MacEwan University in 2014 as the Executive Assistant for the newly formed School of Continuing Education. As a life-long learner of all things, she is currently working towards completing her BBA degree through NAIT, and Management & Supervision certificate through MacEwan.

Colette has a strong interest in mental health advocacy, and in her spare time she enjoys traveling, camping, boating, and spending time with family and friends.

Christine Valentine currently represents the Centre for the Arts and Communications campus for the MSA. She is the Faculty Governance Administrator for the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications and has worked at MacEwan since 2012 after first attending the university as a student. Christine has a passion for higher education administration, and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Educational Policy Studies with a major in Educational Administration and Leadership at the University of Alberta. In her spare time, Christine writes a blog where she discusses educational administrative issues that affect universities, reviews admin books, and shares her autoethnographic work www.valentineacademia.com. She is interested in helping others and believes strongly in fair and equitable representation of MacEwan’s staff members.

Cindy Erdosi

Cindy has been with the university since 2004 and actively involved with MSA since 2005 when she became a member of the Professional Development Committee.

Since then, she has held various roles on the MSA board of executives including: secretary/treasurer and campus rep each for more than one term, as well as serving on the PD Committee (2005-2015) and MSA Social Committee (2015+).

Cindy works in the International Office where she is also involved with the Global Awareness Week and the Global Education Fund committees. She is also an active board member of the Canadian Institute of Management, currently holding the title of Past President. You can also join her on Tuesdays at MacEwan Toastmasters – she is currently Director of Membership with the club.

Her focus and interest in serving on these various boards and committees is for the opportunity to contribute by helping people who want to personally grow and enrich their lives and career options.

Heather has been with MacEwan University since 2006 as a University Advisor in the School of Business, and has been an MSA member since joining the university. She has served as a Member Representative first at South Campus, and then at City Centre Campus after the closure of South, and looks forward to the opportunity to continue to serve MSA members.

Above all, Heather has a passion for helping people and is a compassionate listener with a proactive approach, and has become involved with the union to be of service to MSA members. Prior to becoming part of the MacEwan family in 1995, Wendy was a student in the Office Assistant program (Legal Major). She graduated on the Dean’s List and received the Dr. Charles Allard Award. Over the last 20 years she provided administrative support to various programs within the School of Business, including the Legal Assistant, Voluntary Sector Manager, RCVO, Executive Leadership, Travel, and Insurance programs. Currently, she is the administrative assistant to the Chair in the Department of Decision Sciences.

Wendy values the strong, respectful working relationships she has established and maintained over the years and is looking forward to forming many more university-wide

In her spare time, you will find Wendy in the kitchen preparing and sharing my baking and Ukrainian cuisine with family, friends, and co-workers.

Kirsten Milner

As a University Advisor in the School of Business for the past nine years, Kirsten has been working with diploma, certificate and applied degree program students at both South and City Centre campuses. Her MacEwan “career” actually started decades ago as a student. Her first writing course was at Cromdale Campus, followed by several theatre and dance classes at Jasper Place, then a Life Skills Leader Facilitator certificate at South, and finally a Public Relations diploma at CCC. And Alberta College? You bet! There are some awesome music teachers over there! She is a life-long learner, and MacEwan has provided most of those opportunities. (She had to defect to U of C for her Social Work degree when MacEwan was still a community college.) Kirsten has been a strong supporter of MSA, attending the PD and social events, and helping on the Communications Committee. She appreciates the empowerment and fun MSA offers the membership.

Andy Rhoads

Andy brings to his new role extensive work experience from many different fields. He began his working career with a brief stint as a paralegal, then went on to become a financial planner, holding both provincial and federal licenses in insurance and investments. Andy also spent several years as a retail manager and his most recent work has been in the construction industry in residential renovations, building maintenance, underground excavation and pipeline installation. At MacEwan University Andy is employed with the Facilities Department.

Andy is passionate about the University, its goals, vision, and MacEwan University’s transition to a single sustainable campus. Andy believes in MacEwan University making a contribution to the lives of students, employees and to the community.

Andy and his wife Melany have 3 daughters. He looks forward to the opportunity to represent the MacEwan Staff Association members.

Debbie Couves

An employee of MacEwan University for over 30 years and the Manager of Admissions for more than 10 years. Debbie has also previously served on the Academic Governance Council as a representative of non-academic staff.

Debbie’s experience also includes being a standing member on the former Admissions and Selections Committee and a resource to the current Committee on Admissions and Transfer. During her time on these committees she also served on several sub committees and working groups investigating and researching admissions issues and best practices in undergraduate admissions.

As a member of the leadership team in the Office of the University Registrar, Debbie witness on a daily basis how the decisions made by the governance of the University affect applicants and students alike  and she appreciates the opportunity to be a part of that process. Debbie strives to remember the “Students First” pillar in her day to day decision making and she will bring that perspective to the committee.

Krista Hanscomb

Krista Hanscomb is Mi’kmaq from Paqntkek Mikmaw Nation, Nova Scotia and is the mother of two children, Travis, 22 and Kara, 18.  Krista earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) and is currently working on a Masters of Education in Indigenous Education through StFX.  Throughout high school and university, Krista supported fellow students in her community by providing tutoring and organizing study groups.  This ignited a passion for supporting students in their educational journey.  Krista’s work in Indigenous education spans over 10 years and includes NorQuest College, StFX University and she has been with MacEwan’s kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre since October of 2015.  Krista currently sits on the Indigenous Initiatives Working Group, the Ceremonial Policy sub-committee, and is a member of the newly formed MacEwan Indigenous Advisory Council to the President.

Harry Oosterhoff

Harry brings to the MSA a wealth of experience in interest-based bargaining and collaborative labour relations. He has represented numerous bargaining units through the processing and resolution of grievances and the negotiation of collective agreements. He has experience with WCB appeals, disability management, as well as reviewing and developing policy. In addition to Union Representative, Harry has previously held senior level management positions in Human Resources and Labour Relations, as well as serving as Vice President of Corporate Services for a local construction company. Harry holds a B.Sc (with Distinction) and M.Sc from the University of Alberta, in addition to certificates in Labour Relations, Small Business Human Resources and Health & Safety Administration. He lives with his wife and four daughters on an acreage outside of Edmonton, and in his spare time loves to help out at his neighbour’s farm.
