Bargaining Update
If someone else assigns your tasks and sets your priorities, make it easy for them to be reasonable. Show your supervisor everything you’re working on and ask which project they want completed first. Be honest about your abilities. Most managers will rather give you more time or resources upfront than have you fail at the last moment.
Workload is to be negotiated between the employee and the manager. It’s an ever-changing scenario. Keep an open mind about what needs to be done when and how. Don’t be afraid of your workload. Don’t judge your progress by yesterday’s goals. Question and juggle your list every day. Sometimes you will feel overwhelmed. Watch how you react to those thoughts. If you allow yourself to confirm them, they will follow you from project to project, from job to job, and create your reality. Choose to react responsibly and train those around you to do the same.
The process in your collective agreement includes a specific conversation with your supervisor (W.E. Conversation) about your workload. If that fails to improve the situation, enlist the assistance of HR and MSA to do a workload review. See Article 31 and 32. If you want to discuss the above or anything else, please don’t hesitate to reach out to MSA directly at any time – 780 497 5697 or m**@**cewan.ca.
