Sarah Alexander

Since the beginning of her employment at MacEwan University in 2015, Sarah has been an active member of the MacEwan Staff Association (MSA).  Her involvement started small with  attendance at General Membership Meetings and Tidbit Cafés, after which she became interested in assisting with the functioning of our union.  She volunteered to serve on the Negotiations Team and then was elected as a Member Representative on the MSA Board of Directors.

After two terms serving on the Board under the mentorship of our Past-President, she decided to run for the President role after Donna-Mae Winquist announced her retirement. Now serving in her second term as MSA President, she will continue her commitment to the proper implementation of Board Policy Governance and building healthy and sustainable relationships with all MSA members, office staff and external stakeholders.

In collaboration with staff and committees, the MSA under her leadership has been successful navigating through the global pandemic, negotiating two collective agreements, revising policy documents to improve operational governance and transparency, reviewing the Constitution and Bylaws, transitioning to a new Extended Health and Disability carrier, and implementing a Professional Development Reimbursement Pilot.

Her efforts have significantly contributed to building a collaborative work environment with the goal that every member feels “Significant, Thriving, and Respected”.

Term Expires June 30, 2026
