Renee began her interest and involvement working with unions when employed with Gainers in 1986, Through her work there she saw the necessity of unionizing to set standards for education, wages, working conditions and the quality of life for workers.

Renee toured Canada’s provinces on behalf of the UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) to connect with other local unions. She was privileged to speak with the Executive of the Canada Labour Congress, and at the International women’s Convention, the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour Convention and the Ontario Federation of Labour Convention.

She has been a member of the MacEwan Staff Association since 2006 and volunteered as Secretary/Treasurer from 1998-2000 and a Campus Representative from 2006-2015. She has sat on the MSA Bylaws Committee, previous Employee Relations Committee, Employee Recognition Committee and the Social (Member Engagement) Committee. 

She has been a volunteer the past 10 years with Edmonton Rock and Roll Society, a not-for-profit society dedicated to keeping children off the street through music at the C.A.M. (Centre for Arts and Music). Through this she volunteered with the performers green room during the Rock Fest held at Hawryluk Park during the month of August.
