Negotiations Update

Hey Folks,

It’s been a while since the last update, but I’m excited to tell you meetings with the university negotiating team are continuing! Over the summer, we have made progress on language clarification and settled language in Articles 2, 15, 21 and 24. There are three more days of meetings scheduled later this month. While bargaining for our own collective agreement is still progressing, our expired contract bridges and remains in full force and effect (See Article 3.0.1).

You might have seen media reports on the potential for labour disruption involving other public-sector workers who are facing challenges in their collective bargaining. The MSU encourages our members to show support for other workers regarding their collective bargaining challenges; however, we must respect that any show of support is not permitted to disrupt or negatively impact the work expectations, time or performance level required under our own collective agreement with MacEwan University.

You are encouraged and permitted to participate and show support for their lawful picketing during your personal time, but your OOS manager must approve time away from your work duties if participating impacts your workday.

Warm regards,

Tim McNeil (he/him)
Vice-President, MacEwan Staff Union
