I’ve been an active member of the MacEwan Staff Union since joining MacEwan University in 2015. What began with attendance at General Membership Meetings grew into a commitment to union leadership; first as a Member Representative, then as a Negotiations team member followed by Chair of the Member Engagement committee with eight years and counting serving on the Board of Directors, including two terms as President.
As President, I led the union through significant transformation including ratifying two collective agreements, revising two Constitutions, and navigating the union’s dissolution as an Alberta Society on behalf of 1,400 members. I implemented a shift from an operational to a policy governance model, strengthened board accountability, and kept a strategic focus on protecting and growing our labour disruption funds through lean operations. I’ve been a consistent advocate for member interests, championing engagement initiatives, peer mentoring, professional development, and staff well-being along the way.
As Past President, I now continue serving the MSU as Member Representative, dedicating my experience and enthusiasm to support the next chapter of our union.
